The man was the author of "Friday or The Other Island". 
He was popular. 
The novel is popular because it is inspired from a true story and we read the book at school.

    It is a book about a man on an island. His ship sank. He is alone on the isalnd but he meets an indian: it is Friday.

    It is a good book because the hero lives out of civilization.
    It is long though!
