President-elect Donald Trump was named TIME magazine’s person of the year December 7, 2016. The title of the magazine was “Donald Trump, President of the Divided States of America.” Donald Trump said he did not like the title, but said it was a “tremendous honor.” The list of the top ten finalists for “person of the year” included people like Hillary Clinton, former presidential candidate; Simone Biles, Olympic gymnast; and Beyoncé, singer-songwriter. The award is decided by TIME’s editors and goes to the person or group that have had a major influence on the news for better or worse.
