Flint Water Crisis
Protesters in Flint,MI, are complaining about high levels of lead in the water. When the city switched from Detroit water to water from the Flint River they started to see changes in the water. The discoloration comes from sewage leaking. Lead is the major problem. You cannot see smell or taste lead in water. It comes from old lead pipes used to move the corrosive water. Lead leads to mental problems in children, but you cannot tell until they are adults. This makes Flint residents upset. People are hoping the Michigan governor resigns. President Barack Obama has called for a state of emergency in Flint, giving $170 million to Flint for bottled water and lead testing in children.

The Detroit Public Schools are 327 million dollars in debt. A city wide “teacher sick-out” shut down 88 Detroit schools on January 21, 2016,causing 44,790 students to miss class according to the Detroit Public school system. The ceilings in the classrooms are caving in,the floorboards are coming off and warping. Teachers held the sick out protest in run down buildings. There are mushrooms growing in the building on the floors and walls. Teachers are frustrated at Detroit Public School system because teachers pay was cut by 10 percent and the cost of the health care packages has increased. Students have to sit on windowsills due to the lack of desks, and classes are held in the gym.

In the news today: an avalanche happened in the Alps, around Grenoble.
A group of students and teachers was trapped in the avalanche.
Two students died and one Ukranian is dead. One teacher is in hospital.
The ski slope was closed but the teachers didn't see it. It was dangerous.
This piece of news is important to us because we go skiing on Sunday with our school. Amaya, Morgane, Louise, Nathan, Maeva, Léa and Eva go to the Alps for a week, around Grenoble too! We are worried :-(
